What apps and agents can do
- Look up a tree by its 8-character code: its name, its type, the day its messages open and how many gifts it has.
- See the gifts on a tree. The messages stay private: only the tree owner can read them.
- Leave a gift with a message of up to 500 characters on someone’s tree.
- Report a tree or a message that breaks the Community Guidelines.
Creating a tree and reading its messages stay with the tree owner, who signs in with their own email and password at decomytree.link/create-tree.
API
Base address: https://api.decomytree.link. Requests and answers are JSON, and anyone can call the API from any website (CORS is open). Every answer has success: the result is in data, or error says what went wrong. The full description is openapi.json (OpenAPI 3.1).
| Request | What it does |
|---|---|
GET /v1/trees/{code} | A tree: name, type (christmas, birthday or valentine), the day it opens and its gift count |
GET /v1/messages/{code} | The gifts on a tree, with the names their senders chose to show; the message text stays empty |
POST /v1/messages | Leaves a gift with a message |
POST /v1/reports | Reports a tree or one of its messages for review |
GET /v1/status | Whether My Tree is working right now |
Leave a message
curl -X POST https://api.decomytree.link/v1/messages \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{"shareCode":"ABCD2345","senderName":"Emma","message":"Merry Christmas! 🎄","giftAssetId":"card","showSenderName":true}'shareCode: the tree code, 8 letters and digits, as in a link likedecomytree.link/send-message?tree=ABCD2345.senderName: up to 30 characters. The tree owner always sees it;"showSenderName": falsehides it from other visitors only.message: up to 500 characters. A word filter turns away offensive words with status 422.giftAssetId: one of the gift ids listed in openapi.json, for examplecard,snow-globeorpink-teddy.
Requests are limited per IP address and per tree (for example 10 messages a minute from one address). Past the limit the API answers with status 429; wait a minute and try again.
Rules for apps and agents
- Send only messages that the person you act for wrote or approved, to trees whose link they were given.
- No bulk, automated or unsolicited messages, no advertising and nothing the Community Guidelines forbid.
- Never present a message as coming from someone else.
- Never ask anyone for their My Tree password: tree owners sign in on this website themselves.
For AI agents
- llms.txt explains My Tree in a few lines; llms-full.txt holds every guide in one file.
- Markdown pages: every guide answers
Accept: text/markdownwith Markdown, which is also at the same address ending in.md, like deco-my-tree.md. - API catalog (RFC 9727) and the OpenAPI description.
- Agent skills: how to leave a message on a tree and how to help someone create one.
- AI catalog: the skills and the API in one list.
- WebMCP: in browsers that support it, the pages offer the tools
open_tree,create_treeanddays_until, and an agent can fill in the tree-code and message forms; the person still presses Send.
